Tom was born Oct. 19, 1935, to Frank H. and Clara M. (Plumberg) Smith. He graduated De LaSalle Military Academy class of 1952. He served and was honorably discharged from the US Navy and US Army and also attended Rockhurst College.
On June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage at Redemptorist Church to the most beautiful, wonderful and patient woman in the world (written and expressed often by him) Patricia Dyann Quinn and they had 5 children.
He and Pat owned and operated 3 successful businesses, Smitty’s Photocopy, Spot Not Car Wash and Water Store. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in KC, Raytown and Blue Springs, MO. He was a 4th Degree member in the Knights of Columbus since 1963.
He enjoyed taking road trips for family vacations and then traveling more with his wife, Patricia. He enjoyed sports like baseball and hockey.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence and wife Patricia. He is survived by 5 children, Susan England, Linda (Tom) Lankford, Donald (Kolene dec’d) Smith, Julie Smith and Robert (Sandy) Smith and 6 grandchildren Jacob (Kelly) England, Sara Davis, Bryan (Casi) Lankford, Tyler Smith, Tanner Smith and Jack Lankford. He also had 11 great grandchildren, Khristopher England, Alexis (Kalob) Hargiss, Kaitlyn England, Ethen Davis, Kolton England, Kaleb England, Emma Winship, Mathew Winship, Breanna Lankford, Maddie Smith, Payton Smith and most recently became a great-great grandfather to Karter Hargiss.
A visitation for Tom will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A Reed Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64138 with a rosary service starting at 10:45 AM and Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:00 AM. Committal service to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri 64138.
