It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Claxton Mitchell, who departed from this world on August 30, 2024. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with liver cancer.
Born on October 17, 1953, Tom lived a life that was marked by his unwavering determination and independent spirit. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose keen intellect and sense of curiosity will leave behind a void that can never be filled.
Tom was a man of many talents and interests. He pursued his passions with fervor, whether it was gardening, DIYing his house, or his professional endeavors. He was unapologetically himself, never swaying from his convictions or compromising his principles. He was known for his dedication to his family and friends, and his uncanny ability to find humor in the most unexpected places.
Tom is survived by his children, Kelley, TJ, and Sarah, his grandson, Jackson, and his siblings, Patrick, Michael, James, Madge, Ann, Nonie, and Molly, who will carry his memory forward with love and reverence. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held privately among family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Great Plains SPCA in honor of Tom’s memory.
Though his physical presence may be gone, Tom’s spirit will continue to endure in the memories of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
