Terry was born on June 9, 1947 to Harry J. Siegel and Jean F. Summers. After the passing of his mother, Terry considered his aunt, Betty O'Dell, to be like a second mother.
Terry graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1965. He served in the United States Air Force in both Libya and Vietnam from September 1967 to July 1971. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was also awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Central Missouri State University in 1974, going on to the University of Missouri in Columbia to complete a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1975.
Terry struck gold when he met his wife, Janice Elaine Diehl on June 13, 1969. They were married on December 26, 1971 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Terry started work at Black & Veatch in 1976 as an electrical engineer progressing to senior project manager for assignments around the world in places like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Chile, Brazil, and others. Because of his work, Terry and Janice were able to travel with their children Scott and Shaun, visiting over 30 different countries.
In 2009, Terry and Janice moved from Raytown to Lake Winnebago just before his retirement in April 2010. For 40 years Terry was an active member of Birchwood Baptist Church, in Independence. After moving, he became a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit.
Terry has always had a love of water which included lifeguarding and giving swim lessons, slalom skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks, scuba diving in the South China Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and eventually driving his boat around the lake for his children and grandchildren to enjoy.
Terry was a lifelong learner with interests in history, family genealogy, keeping up with rapidly changing technology, autocross racing, and photography. He was equally skilled with film and darkroom photography, as well as digital photo editing. He photographed all of his nieces and nephews' weddings, in addition to documenting his travels around the world as well as recording a lifetime of family memories. His latest interest was drone photography where he documented the expansion of Lake Winnebago, sharing his photos of this multi-year project with the community, receiving the Shining Star Volunteer Award from the city mayor.
More than any adventure or accomplishment in life, was his deep love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He thanked his God for them each day.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife Janice (Lake Winnebago), his brother and sister-in-law Randy and Donna Siegel (Independence), his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Perry Vandiver (Richmond), his son Scott Siegel and girlfriend Becca Van Tol and her children Gavin and Brady (Kansas City), his son and daughter-in-law Shaun and Erin Siegel (St. Louis), and his three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Siegel (Columbia), Jacob and Lydia Siegel (St. Louis).
