Teresa was born on August 25, 1953 in Alluwe, Oklahoma. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She married George Robert Benson on October 16, 1981. They had their first child on August 21, 1985, Charles Richard Benson. They later moved to Independence, Missouri for George’s job. On July 28, 1989, they had their second child Julie Benson. George and Teresa were active long time members of Bethel Baptist Church in Independence. Teresa was a homemaker and raised both Charles and Julie until they left their childhood home. She was thankful that she was able to be a stay at home mother.
Some of her passions in life included country music, her favorite artist was Reba McEntire. She loved Jesus and she did not hesitate to pray for anyone or tell others about her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed her small women's group Bible Study that she was a part of through Bethel. She loved her grandkids and enjoyed going to any of their athletic or educational activities. She was a passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, and she loved the Duke Blue Devils. She could often be found cheering them on at home and yelling at the TV for them to score.
Teresa was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dorothy and Charles Robinson. Teresa leaves behind her husband, George Benson, her son Charles Benson, wife Kristi, and their children, Lia, Drew, Cole, and Charlotte. Her daughter Julie Thomas, husband EJ Thomas, and their children Emma and Owen. Her older sister Doris Strickland and her younger sister Christine Thomas.
Services for Teresa will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Visitation will be from 10-11am at Bethel Baptist Church in Independence, 2406 S State RTE 291, Independence, MO 64057. Funeral service will follow directly after at 11am. Escort departure from the church to the Mausoleum service will be around 1215 pm. Mausoleum services will be at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64133.
