Teddy Spencer (Wheatley), wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, realtor, patriot, loyal friend, and force of nature, passed to her eternal reward surrounded by family at 11:59 p.m. on New Year's Eve, 2023.
Born in St. Louis, MO on April 23, 1938, Teddy was educated by dedicated nuns in grade school (to whom she had a lifelong devotion), graduated from Webster Groves High School and attended the University of Missouri, Columbia where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Teddy met Wade Spencer , the love of her life and best friend while attending Mizzou. Wade helped Teddy obtain her MRS degree and in 1959, Teddy became Mrs. Guy Wade Spencer.
Teddy and Wade spent their first 5 years of marriage in Glendale, MO before moving to Kansas City, MO due to Wade’s career. Teddy and Wade spent a majority of their married life in Kansas City where they raised seven children and enjoyed many grandchildren (with one great-grandchild and one more on the way).
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Teddy was a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics and a recognized leading realtor in Kansas City for over 30 years (Hal Hulen Realtors, KC One, Eugene D. Brown, JC Nichols, Wyndham Realty / RodRock Development, Reece and Nichols).
Teddy was a life-long Catholic, dedicated to the causes of Catholic tradition and supporting her local parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church. A former priest of St. Vincent’s said of Teddy and her husband Wade, “Wade and Teddy will go down as two of the strongest, kindest, best, and most faithful founding members of St. Vincent’s.” Her example deeply impacted her children and those around her. This is her legacy. Teddy spent her last hours surrounded by her loving family, prayer and every blessing the church had to give.
Teddy loved her family completely. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade; her daughter, Jennifer Lynn; and her granddaughters, Claire and Therese. She leaves behind her sister, Charlotte Patrias (Wheatley); six children, Guy Wade Spencer, Jr., Holly Massey (husband, Brendan Massey, RIP), Tom Spencer (wife, Lisa Spencer), Joe Spencer (wife, Megan Spencer), Chris Spencer (wife, Laurie Spencer), and Mary Greene (husband, Jason Greene). She also leaves 43 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one expected very soon.
Mom, we love you. We are grateful for who you were and your tireless sacrifice. May you rest in peace. We will not forget you and will pray for you continually.
