He entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by both parents and his sisters, Naomi Freemon and Geneva “Gigi” Wolcheski.
Steve grew up on the West Side of Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Manual High School in 1970. He attended Baker University and was a standout athlete in both football and track. He graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and was named an Outstanding College Athlete of America in 1974.
Steve had a brief career with Allstate Insurance, but his greatest achievements were made as an educator in the Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri School Districts and as a Regional Math Coach for the Missouri Math Academy. He retired from the school district in 2010.
He was known for his love of cars and enjoyed restoring vintage Chevy vehicles. In his retirement, he taught himself to play the saxophone, spending hours playing and creating his own arrangements of music. He also learned to restore and rebuild clarinets and saxophones with the desire to donate them to students.
To honor his life and legacy, he leaves four brothers, Johnn, William, Laurence, and James Kelly, beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of cherished family members and longtime friends.
