Stephen (“Steve”) Robert Syrett II was born on October 3, 1948 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Steve and his family later moved to San Pedro Sula, Honduras where his father was British Consul. After the death of his father in 1959, the family immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Kansas City, MO.
Steve attended Christ the King grade school, De LaSalle High School and graduated from Rockhurst University. In 1971, he began work at B.C. Christopher as a commodities clerk and later a stockbroker. A year later, he married Dalene (Deeny) Hawk. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this past summer.
In 1983, Steve and Deeny joined St. Thomas More Parish where they and their three children made lifelong friendships. Steve was a fun and loving husband, dad, and papa. He has been described as one of a kind and had an ability to connect and make a new friend anywhere he went. He was the first one on the dance floor, enjoyed cruising in his convertible, lounging on the beach, and playing cards with a nice glass of scotch.
After retirement from Oppenheimer in 2018, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, spoiling his six grandchildren, perusing the local thrift stores (buy low/sell high never left his personality), and enjoying good cigars and conversation with friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Syrett and Fanny (Chavez) Syrett. He is survived by his wife Deeny; his children Rob Syrett (Kim), Katie Mitchell (Aaron), and Emily Tinsley (Matt); his grandchildren Nathan and Leah Syrett, Nolan and Lily Mitchell, and Georgia and Owen Tinsley; his sisters Margret Anderson, Jackie Bock, and Marie Drummond (Jim); and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (11822 Holmes Rd, KCMO 64131). The Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Logan Baker Foundation https://www.loganbakerfoundation.com/ .
