It was devastating to hear of Stata's passing as she meant the world to me.  As a teacher and advisor, the first impression of her was that she was unbelievably fair, not tolerant to a fault but genuinely willing to listen, form her own opinions and stand by them.  Her way of taking something complicated and making it simple was refreshing, but more importantly, it was inspiring.  Without her, I would never have found my own voice.  Years after leaving KU, I grew to understand and appreciate her even more.  She participated in a conference I was holding to introduce a new computer pattern recognition system that was based on her approach to the study of animal behavior.  After learning that Dr. Harold C. Hodge was also attending the conference, she expressed an interest in meeting him.  I thought it was because he was one of the founding fathers of the Society of Toxicology, but then she shared that it was because he openly opposed her admission to the Society in that he generally opposed membership for women.  When the opportunity came for them to meet, she just smiled at him, and the only thing she said was, “Remember me?”  

After having the honor and privilege of knowing Stata, there is no way that anyone could ever forget.

We have deep sadness learning of Stata's death.  We were her neighbors from Spring Hill where her and David had their country home that they loved and grew all their apple and pear trees.  She was such an amazing, intelligent and sweet friend.  She felt like a grandmother to me.  I will truly miss my talks with her and all her wisdom.  Sincerely, Rob and Kelly Laquet

Stata was my mentor, I was honored to work in her lab, and she later became my friend.  She was a remarkable lady with a brilliant mind and many interests.  I will miss her letters and our visits which always included stimulating discussion on some topic.

I had the honor to know Dr. Stata Norton Ringle because she discovered an important italian manuscript in the Library of the School of Medecine (K. University), I'm italian and I'm researcher in History of the Middle Ages. We cooperate for publishing this manuscript: the text transcription made by Stata and the historical introduction by me. Our cooperation was by e-mail. So I could know a very lovely and interesting person. Finally our book has published (the last days of October) but Stata can not see it. I'm very sad now: she was a great scholar and a great woman. God bless her.

Stata was one of the most remarkable people i've ever known.  Her great heart and mind will be sadly missed.

Stata and David were very dear friends of Mel and Audrey Mohn (my parents).  They shared a love of dogs, a love of food and a love of knowledge together.  It is with great regret we hear of her passing and send love and prayers to David and family.

It is with much sadness that I learned of Stata's death.  She was a good friend through the many years I worked with her in the Department of Pharmacology and after we both retired.  My condolences to David and her nieces.

Stata would stop and talk to me and my two small boys when she was walking her dog.  She seemed so sweet and kind.  I had no idea how amazing she was until reading in her obit about all of her achievements in my field of pharmacology.  I am truly saddened that I never knew that this expert was living so close by and I never had the chance to talk to  her about her amazing career. 
We will all miss seeing her walking her beautiful dog.
