Shirley was a longtime member of Grace Point Baptist Church. She worked for 28 years as a secretary in the Hickman Mills Consolidated School District #1. Her interests included bowling with the Shriners for many years, crocheting and belonged to various card groups. She was a member of the Shriners Needle Guild and volunteered for her church office and at Truman Medical Center Gift Shop. Shirley also volunteered packaging food for the Community Assistance Council.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ethel Reed; her husband, Albert "Shorty;" and a son-in-law who she considered a son, John "Poppy" Banhart. Shirley is survived by two daughters, Janet (Eric) Brockman and Lori Ann Banhart; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Brockman, Jason (Heather) Brockman, Stacy (Jerry) Black, Erica (Russell) Sittloh, Erin Brockman, James (Kristen) Banhart and Joseph (Victoria) Banhart; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Dean (Georgia) Reed.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am, Thursday, August 26 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Committal will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
