She was born July 8th 1965 in Kansas City, MO to Jean and Dolor Rehm, of Kansas City MO. Shelley attended St. Elizabeth Grade School and O’Hara High School. While attending O’Hara Shelley met the love of her life, Patrick Hiesberger. Shelley and Pat married at St. Regis Catholic Church in October of 1987. Shelley received her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 1990 from Rockhurst University-Research College of Nursing. Shelley spent the first 20 years of her career working in oncology at Research, where she became the Director of the Cancer Institute. During this time Shelley was a clinical nurse instructor and then transitioned to working full time nights and weekends on Pulmonary care as she was working on her Master’s degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. Shelley went on to work as a nurse practitioner in the community, most recently for Spira Care in Lee’s Summit. The only thing that surpassed her depth of knowledge was her kindness and compassion for her students, coworkers and patients.
Shelley is survived by her husband Pat, her daughter Liz, son Ethan, 3 Jack Russel Terriers (AKA the Jack Pack), 6 siblings Joe (Robin), Leslie (Mark), Leann, Erin, Norman (Nancy), Jane (Eleazar), multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grand nephews.
Shelley had a passion for fishing, some of her favorite spots were on Truman Lake, Longview Lake, and the Ozarks. Camping was a yearly tradition with family, she loved canoeing, rafting, rock collecting and spending time with her loved ones one these trips. Shelley enjoyed baking, she was known for her chocolate chip cookies and being the queen of pie crusts. She enjoyed these things most when she had her family at her side, and of course her three dogs. Shelley like her mother had a green thumb, she kept many plants, indoors and out, she cherished the time of year when her irises would bloom, as they were here favorite. Shelley liked shopping (at times) and had a passion for collecting anything having to do with fish, her favorite colors were purple and green. On Sundays she would crank up her favorite tunes while cleaning, you could often hear the music from the driveway. Shelley looked forward to hosting dinners and having people over to watch her beloved Chiefs, it reminded her of growing up with a big family when she lived on Main Street. Shelley was warm and welcoming to all, she was genuinely interested in the wellbeing of others, was quick with a joke and the lending of a hand or piece of wisdom. Shelley worked her entire life to care for others, at times it was not always easy as she dealt with many health problems. She pushed through everyday to make the best of her situation, and to choose positivity even in the difficult times. Shelley was brave, smart, hardworking, she had comforting blue eyes with a reassuring smile. Shelley graced many lives and will be deeply missed. Our hearts will never forget, and her legacy will live on through others.
