

Sharon E. Van Dyke, 75, of Leawood, Kansas ended her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on January 12, 2014 surrounded by her husband and children. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Private interment. Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Midwest Ear Institute.
Sharon was born October 8, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a cheerleader at Shawnee Mission North high school and KU. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, member of Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson counties, board member of Midwest Ear Institute, and a volunteer speech therapist for deaf children.
Sharon loved to entertain. She was well-known for her Christmas parties and high school reunions. Her neighbors called her home “The Party House.” Sharon loved going on cruises, reading and arranging flowers. Her children and grandchildren were the delight of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Georga (Whitney) and LeRoy Edgar, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Betty and Harold Van Dyke and her first grandchild Kyle Thomas Winters. Sharon is survived by her husband of 54 years Tom Van Dyke, daughter Jennifer Winters of Lenexa, Kansas, son Jeff Van Dyke and wife Heather of Shawnee, Kansas, grandchildren Kaleb, Kylee, Kristaney, Kaylor, Kianna and Kayzen Winters, and Dylan, Whitney, and Jackson Van Dyke, brother Thomas L. Edgar, Jr. and wife Anne of Rotunda West, Florida, brother-in-law John P. Van Dyke and wife Georgia of Prairie Village, Kansas, niece Julie Edgar of Rotunda West, Florida, extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice and special thanks to Beverly Hunter and Aimee Austin of CareStaf, who were truly compassionate caregivers.
