Shamika LaCheryl Harris was born on March 3, 1982 at St Luke's Hospital to loving parents Keith B. and Tari C. Cannon. On September 20, 2022 at 10:42pm, she transitioned to glory while residing at Ignite Medical Resorts in Blue Springs, MO.
She is preceded in death by grandparents Chester Hicks, Freddie Mae Cannon, Bobby Harris and Sallye Harris, an aunt Wanda Harris Smith and special cousin Myeshia Pruett.
Shamika attended Switzer Elementary and graduated from Westport High School in 2000. She received a Certificate of completion in Hair Styling from Metro Tech and Childcare from Penn Valley Community College.
After graduation, she worked for Accounting Works preparing taxes for several years. She worked in childcare at several places throughout her life; YMCA, Canaan Worship Center, the Link program and Boy Scouts of America.
Shamika accepted Christ as a preteen under Pastor Henry Pace at Shalom Missionary Baptist Church. The family later joined Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under Bishop Tony D. Cobbins, later to become Canaan Worship Center. She was active in the youth ministry with choir, dance and evangelism. In fall of 2013, Shamika graduated from the In Search of Purpose...Enroute to Destiny discipleship ministry. In 2020, she joined the Alive Church KC under Sr Pastor Roman D. Harris where she helped planned activities for the youth and evangelistic outreach.
Shamika was intelligent, creative and adventurous. She was a very warm loving and caring person. She had a servants heart and sweet spirit. She would give her last to help another. Her greatest passion was cooking. It brought her joy watching people eat and yes everyone loved her peach cobbler! Shamika loved the babies. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews taking them on nature walks, shopping, eating out or simply playing outside. She loved taking pictures. Some random, some orchestrated poses but she would always get one with goofy expressions, especially with the tongue stuck out or blowing a kiss. Shamika would shorten names by the first syllable, her niece Mya became My and her mother became Ma.
Due to life long health issues she was told she could not have children so she poured her love on everyone's children. But God has the final say and on June 16, 2016, Shamika gave birth to Mr Keidon D. Warrick. To honor the men in her life she named him after her brothers Brandon and Keith. She poured all the love she desired for herself on and in him. In any given conversation within two minutes she would tell you about the goodness of God and her baby, Keidon. As her health decreased she tried to give him as much wisdom and guidance time would allow. Shamika had a great personality and could keep you laughing. She is truly missed and there is a forever blank spot on the canvas of our future now.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her parents Keith and Tari Cannon; two brothers, Brandon Harris (Latoyia) and Keith Cannon II; her son, Keidon Warrick; five nieces, Mya, Amourae, Audrey, Aaliyah and Kamare'Raye; five nephews, Theo, Keith III, Brandon (LB), Braydon and Kyrie; and a host of very special uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, friends and the Alive Church family.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 7, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Newcomers Floral Hill Chapel at 7000 Blue Ridge, Kansas City, MO 64133. A repast following the service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church 2701 E 43rd St, Kansas City, MO 64130.
