Scott is survived by his wife, Betsy Forbes; daughter, Brianna Farmer, son-in-law, David Farmer, sister, Debra Jennings, brother-in-law, Phillip Jennings, niece, Cammie White, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Bud Forbes, mother, Beverly Forbes, and brother, Eddie Forbes.
Scott was born on February 24, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Raytown High School in 1976 and completed his apprenticeship in the Pipefitters in 1984. He married his longtime sweetheart, Betsy in 1982. After moving to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in 1985, Scott flourished in his career as a Pipefitter for Local Union 533. After nine years of marriage, the couple welcomed their only daughter into their home. His daughter will always remember him as a patient and driven father who encouraged her to always pursue her dreams and to never back down from a challenge. One of Scott’s favorite sayings to Bri was always “pull your head out of your ass, and do what I know you can do”.
Most people that knew Scott, knew that his two girls, Betsy and Bri were his life. In his eyes, those two girls could do no wrong and he was always up for doing whatever they wanted to do, even if that included driving to Las Vegas for Bri’s senior high school trip, where they got stranded on the highway for 8.5 hours in a blast snowstorm. Scott’s family was notorious for having the best family vacations that always consisted of a fun adventure, ranging from, tornadoes and tsunamis in Hawaii, hurricanes in Florida, and blast snowstorms in New Mexico – no, there was never a dull moment when this family of three was together.
Scott prided himself not only on his personal accomplishments, but for his daughter’s accomplishments as well. Scott proudly coached Bri in softball and basketball for more than 13 years and was constantly coaching Bri through life. Every piece of advice given by Scott, will be carried on through Bri and David’s life, as “dad’s” advice was always the best!
Even though family always came first, Scott was accomplished in his career as a pipefitter and became the Financial Secretary Treasurer for the Pipefitters Local Union #533 in 2003. Scott was often called upon not only for financial advice on pensions and savings, but for life advice as well. He was viewed as a trusted influence within in his local and each day Scott strived to be better than the last. Scott was the epitome of the golden rule, and honored each member with the same level of respect. He was a dedicated individual who loved helping his “brothers” in the union and was passionate about his family. Scott served as chairman and trustee of the Pipefitters Pension Fund, trustee on the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, a United Labor Credit Union Board Member, and was active in other labor organizations across Kansas City.
In 2019, Scott retired from the Pipefitters after 39 years of service. In the short time that he was able to enjoy his retirement, Scott enjoyed bowling, playing golf, riding around on his Jayhawk golf cart, boating on the lake, drinking coffee on their lanai, going to the shooting range with friends, going on movie dates with Betsy, making salsa from their vegetable garden, and being the chef of the family.
The visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home from 4:00PM – 8:00PM. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2019 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home at 1:00PM with the burial to follow at Floral Hills East.
Close family friend and ordained minister, Bob Burks will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Scott's life. The family would like to thank all of The University of Kansas doctors and nurses along with all of their family and friends for their efforts, care, and dedication to try and get Scott healthy and home.
We will all miss Scott’s corky smile, sarcastic sense of humor, warm and genuine hugs and kisses, baby blue eyes and his everlasting love.
