Sandi Campbell of Jefferson City, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at Villa Marie Senior Living Center after battling a series of chronic illnesses for several years. Sandra Jean McMahan was born November 12, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to John and Marjorie McMahan (Freisinger), who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Ed Campbell, JR on June 18, 1977 in Kansas City, who survives and is also a resident of Villa Marie.
Sandi spent her early childhood growing up in Independence, MO and later Prairie Village, KS before graduating from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1965. She completed a year of college coursework at Emporia State prior to working in clerical positions, then later fashion and cosmetic sales.
Sandi’s clerical work included positions at Interstate Brands, Marillac Center, Cookbook Publishers, and her husband’s dental office. She was a very proficient typist and had excellent skill in taking meeting minutes/notes using shorthand. By the mid-1980s she began working at Dillard’s in Independence Center where she excelled at helping her customers match outfits with accessories, such as handbags and costume jewelry. She was particularly honored to regularly provide assistance to several wives of Royals and Chiefs players. She also became a Mary Kay Consultant around this time and would continue selling cosmetics for the next fifteen years. Her most important job was that of a homemaker and mother to three boys. She spent most evenings making sure they got to their practices and games on time, often kept the scorebook for baseball games when Ed was coaching, and did several rounds of laundry each week for many years.
Sandi volunteered at her Catholic parish as a eucharistic minister and member of the choir. She enjoyed bird watching and keeping her bird feeders full to see which unique species may show up next.
In addition to her husband Ed, Sandi is survived by her three sons, Dan Montgomery (Christine) of Springfield, Mick (Destiny) of Jefferson City, Ryan (Kayla) of St. Louis; grandchildren Hannah and Brett of Jefferson City, her brother, John McMahan, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
