Ruth Jennings, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully, surrounded by prayers and loving family on February 6, 2024, at Lamar Court Assisted Living Facility in Overland Park, KS. Ruth had been in hospice care since December 1, 2023.
Born in Rahway, New Jersey, Ruth resided most recently at Lamar Court. Previous to Lamar Court Ruth lived at Rosewood Place in Lenexa, KS, for many years and where she had many friends who she socialized and played Sequence with. Ruth graduated from Rahway High School in NJ and followed this by graduating from the Secretarial Program at the Berkeley School in East Orange, NJ. She used the skills she learned throughout her life and worked in various positions until retiring at the age of 76. During her career she worked mostly in medical billing and became a key billing member for one of Kansas City’s largest eye doctors. Ruth’s family was always the main love of her life and she enjoyed cooking and baking for them. She was famous for her Christmas cookies but her half-way cookies were legend. Ruth enjoyed camping with her young family and participated actively with the Boy Scout Women’s Auxiliary and in a Girl Scout leadership role. She loved traveling and went on a variety of trips throughout her life but her favorite vacation was spending almost every summer at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH at a resort where she had been a waitress for a few summers in her youth. Ruth attended church her entire life most recently at Red Bridge United Methodist. Ruth was preceded in death by her twin sister Barbara Morton and her son Mark Jennings.
She is survived by her children Kenneth Jennings (Janet), Scott Jennings (Randi), and Barbara Signor (Pete). Grandchildren Joyce McLain (Jordan), Laura McDowell (Matt), Will Jennings, Chris Jennings (Jozie), Angela Mitdbo (Erik), Matt Jennings (Emma), Ben Jennings, Sarah Jennings, Cali Gilman (Kalen), Kate Gilman, Jennifer Gilman, and Sam Signor. Great Grandchildren Everett McDowell, Elizabeth McDowell, Henry McDowell, Mae Mcdowell, Abby Jennings, Emma Jennings, Ellie Mitdbo, Addison Mitdbo, Nora Mitdbo and Mollie Jennings. Extended family Kala Wisniewski (Troy and two children Josh and Charlotte), Nicole Finn (Mathew and their daughter Ryan).
Ruth will be dearly missed by family and all who came into contact with her smile, sense of humor and gentle spirit.
Family services will be held in the future as her ashes are set to rest in a family plot in Linden, NJ.
