Ruby Jane Scott, 88, of Leawood, Kansas, formally of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on February 28, 2016. Ruby Jane was born on March 28, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to Elmer and Hazel Hendrickson. She was a graduate of Southwest High where she sang in the choir. She graduated from Drury University in 1948 with a degree in elementary education and was a member of the debate team and Kappa Delta Sorority. While in college, she met her husband, James William Scott, whom she married at Country Club Christian Church in 1950.
Ruby Jane was active in the community including her role as president of the women’s group, Circle 19, at CCCC and a member of Woman’s City Club. She was a charter member and the first president of the NKC Branch of AAUW. She will be remembered for her coordination of volunteers at NKC Hospital and her many donations of hand knitted caps for newborns. Ruby Jane enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family.
Ruby Jane is survived by her husband of 65 years, James William (Bill) Scott, of Leawood, daughter Cynthia Wayland (Larry) and granddaughters Rebecca Wayland and Kathleen Cigich (Benjamin), all of Overland Park.
