Roy was one of seven children born to Roy and Marie Stone of Fortescue, MO where he was raised and graduated high school. He is a veteran, having served his country in the US Navy. Roy married his high school sweetheart, Claudine McGuire Stone April 30, 1942, sharing 76 years of marriage. They had two children, Roy III (Rick) and Lynda. Their home was filled with love for everyone who entered, and the door was always open to family and friends. Roy was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roy retired from Armco Steel after thirty years of service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed yard work and gardening. Roy loved sports and was an accomplished pitcher for fast pitch softball, even into his late 50’s. In the 1970’s he even learned to play golf. Roy watched every type of sports and especially enjoyed watching young people compete.
Roy was active in church all his life. He was an active member and deacon emeritus of Sterling Acres Baptist Church. Roy lived out his Christian walk every day, serving and helping others. He was active in beginning the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and has a volunteer award named in his honor.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his daughter Lynda Stone, brother Bill Stone and sisters Pat Maley and Mary Belle Clark.
Roy will be missed by all those who loved him including his sisters Nancy Siron and Becky Hawkins, brother Larry Stone, his son Roy H. Stone III, grandchildren Jeff Stone (Susie), Heather Dalling (Brian), Christine Cody (Joel), Sheri Stone, Shane Stone (Valerie) and Carrie Stone. He had 13 great-grandchildren. Roy had a large family including many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him Uncle Dude. He also had many close friends who will miss his love and support.
Services will be held on Monday, October 1st at Mount Moriah Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following.
