PARENTS: Joseph Clayton Dennis and Gladys Francis Dennis
Roger started school in Independence, MO. Then moved with his parent and older brother, Donald Lee Dennis, to San Antonio, TX. The family returned to Independence, MO in 1942. (WWII going on)
He joined the Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War. Basic training was at Parks AF Base in California and then stationed in Big Springs, TX.
Roger met his first wife, Oweta Bell “Jodie” Daniels, while stationed in Big Springs. They married in 1956 and together had two sons; Michael Clayton Dennis and Ronald Lee Dennis.
After serving in the Air Force and receiving an honorable discharge, Roger returned to the Kansas City Area with his family and remained there after the couple divorced in 1965.
In 1970, Roger met and married his second wife, Rebekah Joy (Thorne) Dennis. He and Becky proceeded to raise her two daughters; Debra Rene (Davis) Baker and Lisa Michelle (Davis) Crooks, in Raytown, Missouri.
Roger retired from General Motors in 1988 and the couple moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. They moved back to Independence, MO area in 1994. While still living at the Lake the couple began wintering in an RV in the south, and even spent 2003/04 living full time in an RV. Then in 2011 they bought a mobile in Seminole, Florida and lived there until 2017 before again returning to the Independence, MO area.
Roger enjoyed Boating and owned several different boats over the years. He also enjoyed RVing, fishing, and restoring old cars. He brought several old cars back to life. Another favorite thing to do was fly. He owned and flew his Ultralight aircraft before retiring in 1988.
Roger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebekah Joy Dennis; his sons, Michael Clayton Dennis (Pflugerville, TX) and Ronald Lee Dennis (Austin, TX); his step-daughters, Debra R. Baker (KC MO) and Lisa M. Crooks (Lake Lotawana MO); his niece, Donette Dennis (Smithville MO); 12 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, one Great Great Grandchild.
A graveside service for Roger will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Floral Hills Cemetery (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133). Family will be meeting at the graveside, if you need directions or a map please stop in at reception on the lower level of the funeral home.
