Rod was a beloved son, husband, father, and papa. Rod was born on Christmas day, December 25, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri to Donna Fern and John Kenneth Dhone. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, attending Ruskin High School and graduating from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1988. As a kid and as an adult he enjoyed everything outdoors; basketball, baseball, water skiing, fishing, wiffle ball with friends and even as a young man helping his dad build their own house in Lee’s Summit and a lake house in the Ozarks. After graduating with an accounting degree from UMKC, he began his career at Ruskin Manufacturing then later transitioned to human resources, which he loved (even though they sometimes drove him crazy, he loved helping people) and continued until his passing.
Rod met his wife, Nancy, at Ruskin Manufacturing where they both worked in 1986. Rod and Nancy, best friends and soulmates, were married on February 20, 1988. Rod raised his son and daughter with his wife in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Rod and Nancy moved to Overland Park, Kansas and loved living in Johnson County. There, they made friends and their Christian faith grew stronger than ever before. Rod was also the world’s greatest Papa, even though he thought he wasn’t old enough to be a Papa.
After vacationing every year for over 20 years in the Destin, Florida area (that they both loved) and living through the Missouri winters all of their lives, Rod and Nancy made the decision to relocate to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in June of 2023 to live out their dream of living near the white sands of the Florida panhandle and the Gulf of Mexico. They found a great house, had great neighbors (the neighborhood even had a pond for fishing) and they lived less than 15 minutes from that sugar white sand.
Rod loved the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and MIZ-ZOU; even when they weren’t having the best of seasons. He loved dogs and had many throughout his life and I am sure they were waiting with open paws when he arrived in heaven. He enjoyed working in his yard and making it the lushest and greenest anyone had ever seen. He enjoyed making his red (his favorite color) GMC truck look amazing and people would often stop to compliment him on it; which made him so proud. You could find him and his wife on any sunny day packing for a beach day early in the morning and heading out to watch a sunrise. Rod enjoyed relaxing with his toes in the sand, a vodka tonic in his hand, and Nancy by his side. They loved listening to the waves and the salt life together.
Rod was preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Donna; father-in-law, Jack; mother-in-law,
Dorothy; both paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Rod is survived by his wife and soulmate of 35 years, Nancy; daughter, Jillian; son, Tony (Susana); grandsons, Carson, Damyon, Xavier and Dominik; stepfather, Dale; aunt, Doris Jean Allen; and uncle, Bob Dhone. He is further survived by a stepbrother, stepsisters, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many others too numerous to mention, but are all special to Rod.
