Just shy of his 97th birthday, Bob was born on August 23, 1925, to Charles and Jessie Vawter. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1945 where he met his beautiful and loving wife, Joan. He was Joan’s devoted caregiver during her long illness and was by her side until her death. Joan passed away on August 2nd, 2003, exactly 19 years ago to the date and hour of Bob's death.
Bob took great pride as a homebuilder following his father’s legacy who built and developed Roeland Park, Kansas, and surrounding areas. He continued the legacy, building homes and apartment buildings in Kansas City and Johnson County that are still standing today.
While Bob was very proud of his business accomplishments nothing could compare to his love and pride for his family. They brought such joy and comfort to his life, that made it all worth living to such a ripe old age.
Bob was the epitome of tenacity and resilience as he weathered the ups and downs of life. He had a wonderful sense of humor with a sharp, dry wit that lifted spirits for all who knew him. We will remember him always for his spontaneous gestures of kindness and quiet concern for the well-being of everyone around him.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joan; ; sister, Suzie Gran; and grandchildren, Charles Stewart and Rob Vawter.
He is survived by his brother, Joe Vawter (Gayle); children, Ned Vawter, Nanette Vawter, Carol Schieszer (Larry), Diane Clarkson (Bill), Jean Socolofsky (Rob), Chuck Vawter (Carol); grandchildren, Nick, Jamila, Brianna, Kurt, Matt, Ben, Claire, and Harrison; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Luca, Ruby, Georgia, Charlotte, Noah, and Simon.
Although memorial services will be private, we would like to thank all our dear friends and extended family for their love and support in honoring our wonderful dad.
