Robert (Bob) Smart, Sr., 83, of Mission Hills, Kansas passed away Monday March 7th, 2016. Bob was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong resident. Bob is the son of the late Margaret T. Wallich and the late David Oliver Smart, III. He attended Prairie School, then Shawnee Mission High School. He attended the University of Arizona and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Bob was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church all of his life. He served the church in many capacities, including the Vestry and Treasurer of the Diocese of Western Missouri. He was married at St. Andrew’s in 1955 to Constance Lounsbery. Connie preceded him in death after 59 years of marriage.
Bob had a long successful career in the investment business. He started his career at H.O. Peet and Company where he became a Partner. The company was purchased by Kidder Peabody and Co. Later he formed and served as President of Smart, Moreland, Neuner, & Soden, Inc. in downtown Kansas City. Purchased by BMA this resulted in a new company, BMA Financial Services, where he served as President. He started another firm and served as Chairman of Perkins, Smart & Boyd, Inc. He recently retired in 2015 after First Financial Equity Corporation acquired the company. He was a member of the Midwest Stock Exchange and the Cincinnati Stock Exchange. He was a past President of The Kansas City Traders Association.
He was proud to serve as Chairman of the Helping Hand of Goodwill of Kansas and Missouri as well as Past President of Trinity Lutheran Hospital Foundation.
He was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, The River Club, The Kansas City Club and The Bull Pen Club.
He enjoyed spending time at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he and Connie spent many years of enjoyment and had so many wonderful friends. He served on the Board of Scottsdale House.
He leaves two sons, Robert (Robbie) Smart, Jr. (Julie Townsend Smart) and Christopher M. Smart (Angela A. Smart) and grandchildren Sarah E. Smart, David O. Smart, V, Eleanor T. Smart, Courtney M. McClelland and Anna C. McClelland; and a special friend, Eunice Thomas. His brother David O. Smart, IV, preceded him in death last year.
Bob touched many people’s lives and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend to all and will be missed by so many.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Church, in memory of Robert Smart.
