Bob was born in Kansas City, December 19, 1933, and lived most of his life in the Kansas City area. After Southwest High School, he went to UMKC pre-dental and Kansas City University Dental School, now the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Bob was proud of his affiliation with the Bounder Fraternity and forged many lifelong friendships in his organization.
Dentistry was a passion of Bob’s. His father, Dr. William Jasper Newton, was a long time dentist in the area, and when Bob went into practice with his dad, and both father and son were equally proud of the relationship and the opportunity to practice together. Bob was committed to his patients, to his staff, and to providing great dental care to many in the community. He forged long friendships with patients and his peers and professional associates. He took care of patients like family and with integrity and high professional and ethical standards.
Bob’s commitment to the profession led him to a long time membership and leadership in the Kansas City Dental Abstract Study Club; chairing many of the study club’s wild game dinners.
He was a life member of the state, local and national dental associations. For many years he chaired the Dental School Alumni Association reunions.
When Bob graduated in 1958, he was called to serve in the Air Force, and was sent to Morocco where he met Marie. After Bob established his dental practice with his father in Kansas City, Bob went back to Morocco to marry Marie in 1962. They then moved to Overland Park where they lived, raised their family and were married for over 53 years. They were devoted to each other and complimented each other. Bob was a committed husband and father and provider for Marie and the boys; Marie, the homemaker, mother, wife and accommodator of all of Bob’s outdoor and wildlife interests.
Bob was a consummate outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting and had many great bird dogs. It brought him great joy to hunt and fish for years with his sons, Bill and Mark and so many close friends, Karl Fallman, Lou Ott, Gary Buchanan, Ben Sparks, just to name a very few. Bob enjoyed frequent trips to Canada to go fishing.
Bob was interested in preservation and promotion of wildlife habitat and was a long time member of Quail Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited and participated in many of their activities and events.
When the boys were growing up, Bob enjoyed spending time at Table Rock Lake teaching the boys and many young family friends how to fish and water ski. Bob loved life, a good party and having a good time.
Bob’s father and mother are both gone, but he is survived by his brother Jay Newton and his wife Sandy, and their daughter Vicky and son Michael (deceased), his sister Judy Nigro and her husband Steve Fasone, and their son Greg and daughter Stacy. Sons, Bill of Overland Park and Mark of Lawrence, and wife Marie of the home in Overland Park, miss him deeply, but are so grateful for their time together with Bob and for Bob’s life enthusiastically and boldly lived.
Marie, Bill, and Mark want to thank Dr. Kaplan, the medical staff and the nurses of Overland Park Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of Bob. They were not only committed professionals, but clearly and deeply cared about their patient, Bob
