Robert “Bob” Manthei passed away Friday November 3, 2017 in Kansas City, Kansas. Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be at 11:00am followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00pm.
After graduating from Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas, Bob joined the Army where he was in the 516th Engineering Company as a bridge Specialist. He served overseas In Holland and Germany. An Honorable Discharge came in 1962. Upon his return home, Bob went to work as an apprentice in his father's jewelry shop. He then went to work at the General Motors Fairfax plant, retiring after 30 years in 1994.
Bob was active Mason and Shriner for many years always taking his grandchildren to the Shrine Circus. He was involved In Boy Scouts providing leadership to Troop 111 in Missouri and Troop 740 in Kansas City, Kansas. The most fun he had were the many years he spent on the maintenance staff at H Roe Bartle Scout Camp in Osceola, Missouri. Bob was a member of the “Tribe of Mic-O-Say” eventually earning his white paint. His tribal name was "Sachem Red Eye Squirrel". During his time at Camp Theodore Naish in Kansas he became a member of the Order of the Arrow, Tamegonit Lodge 147. Bob loved to bowl and attempted to play golf.
Bob was born October 21, 1937. He is preceded in death by his Father Rudolph Carl Manthei and Mother Louise Marie Manthei and Wife Garnet “Dawn” Manthei. Survivors include his Son Robert Manthei Jr. and Daughter-in-law Rebecca Manthei of Kansas City, Kansas. Brother Carl Manthei of Nevada, Sister Rudia Hedding of Utah and Brother David Manthei of Utah. Bob leaves behind four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
