Bob was born in Superior Arizona but grew up in Marengo Indiana where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1949. Bob attended West Point before serving in the Army where he worked in intelligence overseas in Austria and Germany. After his time in the military, he attended Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana where he earned a degree in Criminology with a minor in History. In 1959 Bob joined the Secret Service where he worked for the Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson administrations and worked on various special assignments.
While living in Texas Bob developed a love of boating and bicycling. Upon retirement from the Secret Service he worked for ten years at Peddlers Bike Shop in Independence. As an enthusiastic cyclist he raced bikes, including 100-mile timed races and biked the Katy Trail. He rode his bike to church and work as often as he could.
Bob spent time living in Louisville, Kentucky, San Antonio, Texas, Austin, Texas, Raytown, Missouri and Kansas City Missouri. Bob was a Lions Club member serving as president for two years and flipping countless pancakes for the annual fundraiser. Bob attended Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church, and when his children were young he coached basketball and was a Cub Scout leader.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Edwin Cloud Lockwood and Nona Pearl Sterling Lockwood.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Linda and children James Lockwood, Catherine Marth (Mike), Michael Lockwood (Sherry) and Ann Lockwood; grandchildren Deirdre Cummins, Audrey Lockwood, Owen Lockwood and William Lockwood; great grandchildren Celeste Cummins, Faith Cummins, Bellah Cummins and Heaven Cummins; brother Richard Lockwood (Pat) of Costa Rica and his nieces Stacy Lockwood Rapp and Pam Meriwether and nephew William Lockwood. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Molly.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church. A visitation and reception will be held at the church at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church. As Bob was a dog lover, memorial contributions may also be made in his honor to the Leader Dog Program (for seeing-eye dog training), make checks payable to Independence Host Lions Club.
