Robert F. Chartrand born June 23, 1928 in Shrewsbury, Missouri completed his life journey on November 25, 2022 at St. Joseph Medical Center. An Army Veteran, he served in the Korean War and in Japan before returning to Kansas City where he worked most of his career with Western Auto.
Bob was the youngest son of Eugene and Anna Chartrand and brother to Eugenia “Jean" Doris Brisson (deceased 2004); Hubert J. (deceased 2001); and Arthur A. Chartrand (deceased 2004). Bob and his wife Martha (Everard) were married in 1955 and were blessed with two daughters, Carol Ann and Mary Patricia (deceased 2015) After Martha's death in 1959, Bob went on to raise his two young daughters with the support of his parents at their home in the Christ the King parish, where they were members.
Like his Father, he was always tinkering and repairing things from cars to hot water heaters. Nothing would be replaced if Bob could give it a nail, coat of paint, screw or duct tape to repair it for another day. He enjoyed fishing in his younger days and trips to the Lake of the Ozarks with his nephew, Arthur J. Chartrand, Overland Park. He was a quiet and humble man but loved to visit with friends and family. Even at 94, his mind remained as sharp as any doctor, lawyer or accountant and could easily challenge them all to a duel. He kept physically active and until recent years, enjoyed long walks to McDonald's to meet friends for coffee or to Leawood City Park. Unfortunately, a heart valve surgery two years ago drained him of that enviable vigor which allowed him to mow the lawn, repair pipes, cook his own meals and mend every door hinge. One of his last tasks was to get his taxes done but most days were spent walking, checking email and bank accounts, and chatting with Carol while consuming several pots of coffee.
In accordance with his strong desire and determination, he lived in the Chartrand family home until the day he died. “No senior prison for me. Those are for old folks.”
Surviving him is his loving daughter Carol Ann Chartrand of Independence, Mo. who carried on the tradition begun by her sister, "Mary Pat", by calling “Father” religiously every morning and evening in a life of devotion and care. Bob also leaves his nephew, Charles W. (Bill) Brisson of Bend, Oregon and his wife Helen, to whom he was much more than an uncle. He also leaves his nephew, nieces, grand nieces and grand nephews.
