Richard grew up an only child in the family home in Kansas City, MO and attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School. While growing up, he enjoyed weekly Sunday family dinners which included aunts and uncles. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1960, from Rockhurst College in 1965, and from Webster University with a Masters in Business.
Richard enjoyed officiating at his daughters' swim meets when they were little and also their softball games. Richard was a member of Ascension Catholic Church and the 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He loved to volunteer in the Knights of Columbus meetings as well as breakfasts, the annual Lenten fish fry, Toys for Tots and also being the president of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time at the family condo at Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO where he enjoyed relaxing, reading and boating. Richard also loved the avid sport of golf and recently made a dream come true vacation when he went to the Masters in Georgia. Richard loved spending time with family and friends and imparting wisdom whenever he could.
Richard worked at Dodson Insurance Agency where he was an Actuary and was a member and president of the Hartland Chapter of Society State Filers. Since he enjoyed working with numbers, Richard also worked during the IRS tax season for H&R Block for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry and mother Catherine. He was survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeraldine Ann Witthar; three daughters living in the KC area: D’Ann Keilman (Mike), Tracy Addison (Robert), and Sandy Warder (Jay); eight grandchildren: Tony Fowler (Meghan), Greg Fowler (Kourtney), Robert Fowler, Lucas Fowler, Megan Keilman, Brandon McNiel, Steven McNiel (Amber), Logan Warder, Haley Cramer (Clarence), Kyle Jacobs, Jaryn Jacobs; nine great grandchildren: Kaden Fowler, Jax Fowler, Kaia Fowler, Kacen Fowler, Adison Fowler, Blake Fowler, Emery Keilman, Braxton McNiel and CJ Cramer.
