Richard (Dick) J. Patterson passed away in the early hours of July 18th, 2023 due to the complications of a short illness. Dick was born in Denver, Colorado and raised by Archie Patterson and Mildred Jones Patterson. He was preceded in death by his parents at a young age and raised by a guardian from age 11. He attended the Denver public schools, the highlight of which, was his high school career at East High. He would eat lunch each day with a group of friends on the south lawn of the impressive and historic grounds. This group would later call themselves the South Lawn Buddies. To this day, they still get together each and every year in a wonderful reunion celebrating their friendships with memories and laughter.
Dick joined the Coast Guard Reserve and then started a career in the business world while attending college. He graduated from the University of Denver and eventually received a Masters in Banking from the University of Colorado in Boulder. His professional career took him to Portland Oregon, Chicago Illinois, and then Kansas City, arriving in 1973. His career included everything from the trucking industry to banking, home remodeling to small business ownership, and lastly running a small local wine shop aided by his dear companion Jake, the English Setter.
Dick loved his family and friends more than anything and was always there with support and a helping hand when needed. A lover of good conversation, music, woodworking, his dogs, and the Tetons. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him well, many of whom have said, he made them feel very special.
He is survived by his son, John, who he was immensely proud of, and his second wife, Linda; along with his step children; Jordan, Nathan, Adrian (& Ashley) Otte, and step-grandchildren; Logan and Lily Otte.
A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 29 in McGilley State Line Chapel with visitation one hour prior to service.
