

Richard A. (Dick) Neal, 81, of Leawood, KS passed away February 6, 2016. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St., Leawood, KS.
Dick was born on March 14, 1934, in Lincoln, Nebraska to U.D. and Josephine Neal. He attended Cathedral High School in Lincoln and was named to the All-State Football team his senior year. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1956 with a degree in Political Science. While at NU, he met his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy (Hegstrom) Neal. He was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and played on the 1955 Cornhusker Orange Bowl team.
After college, Dick served in the Air Force for three years before he and Nancy moved to Kansas City where he began his career at Hallmark and eventually retired from the General Services Administration in 1996.
Dick was a man of deep faith. He had an amazing memory and a wry wit. He loved Hawaii, Ireland, and the University of Nebraska. While his three daughters attended KU, he also developed a great admiration for the Jayhawk tradition. Dick was a family man who cherished his wife, daughters, and grandchildren who adored him.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy (Neal) Armstrong, his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Nancy,
daughters, Julie Wilmoth (David), Jane Neal, son-in-law, Jeff Armstrong, brother, Donald Neal (Bev) and sister-in-law, Midge Neal. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Meghan Armstrong, Chris Armstrong (Courtney), Kelly Wilmoth (fiancé Kyle Thompson) and Kyle Wilmoth. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends in Kansas City and Lincoln.
