Dick was born on May 3, 1926 in Norfolk, Nebraska to August and Emma Krueger. He attended Winside, NE High School, graduating in 1943. Dick served his country in World War II as an Army supply sergeant in the Pacific Theater.
On October 15, 1949 Dick and Eleanor (Ellie) were married. Together, they were avid dancers, both ballroom and square dancing. They traveled over the country during their square dancing days. Dick and Ellie enjoyed watching their sons’ athletic events, baseball, football, and basketball. Dick also participated as an umpire in the Johnson County 3&2 baseball programs and as a high school football referee. He was also privileged as an assistant coach on Don Maffrey’s Golden Eagles football team. Dick was a past member of the Prairie Village Lions Club, serving as president in 1984 and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Prairie Village.
In his working years, Dick worked for Conoco Oil, and later with Prudential Insurance as an agent.
Dick is predeceased by his wife, Ellie, and his two brothers, Leonard and Benjamin. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Beeks, his sons Kirk (Babs), Steve (Debbie), Jeff (Michelene), and Jerry; seven grandchildren and three great granddaughters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Wetzel and the caring staff on the third floor at Shawnee PARC.
Private services will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.
