He was born on March 25, 1933 in Mercer, Missouri, the son of Edward Lee and Helen Genevieve (Griffin) Hubler. In his early years the family lived in Lineville, Iowa. Later they moved to Dinsdale, Iowa where he graduated from High School. He was a standout basketball player. Richard attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War.
Richard was employed 34 years at Kansas City Life Insurance Company. He began his career in 1957. In 1982 he would transfer to Sunset Life (a subsidiary company of Kansas City Life) where he was Vice President until his retirement in 1991. He made many longtime friends there.
He was a sports fan, an avid golfer, gardener and loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Hubler.
Richard is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hubler of 41 years, his sons, Greg Hubler and wife Cindy, Doug Hubler and wife Pam Miller, his daughters, Pam DuBois and her husband Bob, Karen Sippy and husband, Brian, grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Adam, Chloe, and Chase, great grandchildren, Alexya, Greyson, Ella, Jaelyn and Ava, sister, Mary Callen, brother, Gary Hubler and numerous extended family.
A memorial visitation for Richard will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:00 am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A celebration of life with full military honors and reception will follow after services. A private committal of ashes will occur at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
