Richard Jerald Eckert, 90, of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at Cameron Regional Medical Hospital. He was a resident of Redwoods of Cameron Nursing Home in Cameron, Missouri. Richard was born July 16, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Richard Joseph Eckert and Vivian Eckert. Jerald, as he was commonly known by relatives and friends, grew up in the Kansas City area. He graduated from high school in Kansas City, Missouri. Jerald worked as an apprentice electrician until he went to the Navy at the age of 19. January 1, 1950, he served aboard the USS Piedmont and the Destroyer Tender. He retired from the United States Navy after 26 years of service. Jerald then worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 20 years where he worked as an electrician.
Jerald was a member of the VFW for 50 years in the Mission Lodge Westport of Kansas City, Missouri. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Brookfield, Missouri. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Chillicothe, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at his lake house in the Lake of the Ozarks, Edwards, Missouri.
Richard Jerald Eckert was preceded in death by his parents and wives, Mary Lou of St. Catherine, Missouri, and Betty of Edwards, Missouri. Jerald married Anna Kitchener Hanson July 29, 2010, and resided with Anna until her death October 23, 2020. Jerald is survived by the following step children: Sally Winters, Parker, Colorado; Harry Kitchener (Laureli), Concordia, Kansas; Robert Kitchener, Clay Center, Kansas; Arnold Kitchener (Diane), Abilene, Kansas; Sue Bazal (John), Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Alan Kitchener, Edina, Missouri, and many more step children and grandchildren. Richard Jerald Eckert was also blessed with two sibling sisters: Virginia Mae Schuman of Belton, Missouri, and Vivian Klee (Jack) of Olathe, Kansas.
