Ray was preceded by his wife of 63 years, Denise (Dugan) Douglas, his mother, Helen Tranby, father, Raymond Douglas Sr., and stepfather Orville Tranby.
Ray attended Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO. where he joined the ROTC Program. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 2 yrs., then enlisting in the U.S. Army for an additional 5 yrs. of service. While serving in the Army his training involved courses in Topography. During his European deployment he assisted in the mapping of West Berlin, Germany (after WWII). Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Ray began a career with the U.S. Department of the Interior, (United States Geological Survey) Topographic Division.
His 38 yrs. with the U.S.G.S took Ray and his family to many U.S. destinations, primarily the western states. His work consisted of surveying the land then transcribing the data onto paper to create maps. In 1969, Ray took a position with the U.S.G.S Regional office in Rolla, MO where he retired in 1994. He and Denise then moved to their favorite state of Oregon.
Ray was a devoted husband and father and loved spending every opportune moment with his family. He also loved animals and always had a faithful canine companion by his side. Ray had the utmost respect for his country and its military members. He would go out of his way to thank a veteran for their service.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years and the Eastern Star. He greatly enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and touring many scenic destinations. Ray and Denise were avid square dancers with their Duck and Dive square dance club. He was also everyone’s go-to handyman.
Ray is survived by his four children, Tawnya (Dick), Terry, Duane (Nancy), and Korla (Scott).
