Paz Rodriguez Hernandez, 102, Kansas City, MO, passed away on June 14, 2024 at home. She will be missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO. A church service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 24 at First Baptist Westside Church, formerly First Mexican Baptist Church, 801 Avenida Cesar E. Paz was born on January 24, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri but later raised in Mexico City, Mexico. Paz attended nursing school in Mexico City, Mexico where she received her degree and worked at General Hospital in Mexico. One of her passions was playing basketball.
Paz was employed by Macy's for over 25 years as a seamstress/tailor. While working at Macy's, she was the union steward and treasurer for ACTWU Local 64. Some of her travels were to Florida, California, Chicago and the Bahamas while she was a union steward. Macy's closed downtown at which time she retired. Paz continued working at various tailor shops like Woolf Brothers downtown and Plaza locations for several years, then for Jack Henry and Pener.
Paz was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith (Judy) Hernandez; her parents, Juan Martin and Margarita Rodriguez; sisters, Josefina Solis, Virginia De La Rosa, Edith Olvera; and her brother, Daniel Rodriguez. She is survived by her daughter, Maria Gonzales; son, George A. Hernandez; two grandchildren, Robert and Marisa; four great-grandchildren, Arek, Lexi, Abram and Gabriel; three sisters, Mrs. Esperanza Martinez, Kansas City, MO, Mrs. Ruth Aleman, Austin, TX and Mrs. Martha Alvarez, Lees Summit, MO.
