Pauline Loman West passed away February 20, 2016 in Kansas City MO. She was born February 17, 1917 near Sedalia MO to parents Della and Reuben Loman and was the eldest of five children. Pauline grew up in Warrensburg, MO. She then moved to Independence and finally Kansas City where she worked for many years as a waitress.
In January, 1941, she married Samuel Guy West. They had five children. Their youngest son, Mark, became a quadriplegic from an auto accident at age 15 in 1968. Pauline cared for him at home for nearly 20 years and was instrumental in helping him graduate from high school and then from UMKC.
Pauline is preceded in death by all of her siblings, her husband Guy and son Mark West and is survived by four children: Jack West (Rebecca) New York City, Gail Hollister (Mark) Overland Park, Pam Wait (Greg) Prairie Village and Denise Lee of Shawnee; granddaughters: Christina Hopkins and Mary Lee and grandson Ryan Lee; four great-grandchildren and three nephews: Steven Shinners, Sean Winthrop and Philip Varns.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Armour Home Skilled Nursing for their excellent care of Pauline for the last eight years. Donations may be made in her name to Gentiva Hospice.com.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, February 26 and Funeral Service at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, February 27 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO.
