Paul A. Kiefer, 93, longtime resident of Gladstone MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 10, 2014 at Westbrook Villa in Kearney MO. Visitation will be Wednesday January 15 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., Kansas City MO. Services will also be at McGilley Antioch Chapel on Thursday January 16 at 10:30am, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
Paul was born in Kansas City MO on August 10, 1920, eldest son of Clarence A. Kiefer, Sr. and Hazel Gillette Kiefer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and completed technical training to become a journeyman electrician. Paul was a 70-year member of I.B.E.W., Local 124, working on construction of many of Kansas City's notable buildings. He retired in 1982. Paul met Margaret Lucille "Lucy" Calhoun at the Plamore Ballroom and they married in February, 1946. They moved to Gladstone in 1955, where big band music and dancing was a continual source of enjoyment with house dance parties with relatives, friends and neighbors. Paul and Lucy enjoyed collaborating on many home improvements and remodeling projects. Paul's other hobbies included woodworking, bowling, fishing with his brother, and tending his tomato garden.
Paul is survived by his wife, Lucy; children Susan Kiefer of East Lansing, MI; Sally Gummeson (and son-in-law John) of Mesa AZ; Lori Mathis (and son-in-law Wayne) of Gladstone; Paul M. Kiefer of Kansas City, MO; Kevin Kiefer (and daughter-in-law Elizabeth) of Kenosha WI; Cary Kiefer of Gladstone MO; Kristina Little (and son-in-law Chris) of Liberty MO; and siblings Madeline Hale of Kansas City MO; Bonnie Mogan of Columbus OH; Donald Kiefer of Kansas City MO; Hugh "Mickey" Kiefer of Liberty MO; Carol Johnson of Gardner KS, and 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clarence A. Kiefer, Jr., his sister Rita Sherrow, daughters, Linda Kramer and Monica Kiefer, and son, Mark Kiefer.
