Paul Clyde Carr, 85, of Kansas City, MO passed away Dec. 22, 2016. Memorial service 11am Tues., Dec. 27, 2016 with visitation starting at 10am at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel. Burial following the service at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence.
Paul was born March 22, 1931 to Walter and Margaret Carr. He attended Manual High School in Kansas City before enlisting in the Army in 1947 at age 17. He served in Japan and Korea. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1951. On Oct. 2, 1953 Paul married his one true love, Joan Johnson. They enjoyed 63 years of marital bliss. Paul and Joan were blessed with two children, Cynthia Lynne Wolff and Paul Clyde Carr, Jr. Both of Paul's children preceded him in death in 2014. Paul is survived by his wife, Joan; his brother, David Carr; his sister, Marjorie Fleemen; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Carr; his two granddaughters, Ashley Wolff Smith and Candice Dillon as well as several great grandchildren.
Paul was a firefighter for several years before he became a Lineman at Kansas City Power and Light where he worked for 32 years. He retired in 1990. Paul was very gifted. He was ambitious and hardworking. He built several homes. He and Joan lived in one of the houses he built for over 50 years. He was a skilled woodworker. Paul built furniture for his children and granddaughters, which included clocks, china hutches, cedar chests and dining room tables. Paul was also a master gardener and gourmet cook. He was a good man who lived life to the fullest. He was a good friend and made friends easily. Paul and Joan had a lot of great pool parties and picnics for family and friends. Paul was diagnosed with cancer in Nov. 2016. He was mentally sharp and maintained his sense of humor until the end which was a great comfort to his family and friends.
