Patricia was born on September 20, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William David and Louise Augusta (Optiz) Hughes. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in home economics in 1971 from The University of Missouri, and in 1982 graduated magna cum lade from The University of Kansas with her Juris Doctorate Degree.
Patricia was married to Dr. Brian Brungardt (1974-1979) this union was blessed with one child, Karen Louise. She then married Daniel M. Troutz (1996- 2023).
Patricia was an exceptional person; she was a devoted daughter, mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and best friend to many.
Patricia joined the Missouri Bar Association in 1982 and was one of the first woman lawyers in Clay County, MO. During her 40-year career she divided her time between private practice and working for in the Collection and Assessment Departments in Clay County, MO. In January 2023 the Clay County Bar Association granted her their Lifetime Achievement Award.
She was a passionate and involved member of Soroptimist and The Liberty Historical Society, serving in virtually every position on the executive boards of both. She was an advocate for voting rights and accountability. She enjoyed politics and appreciated varying points of view while holding true to her own convictions.
She had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh that could fill a room.
She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Hughes, and sister Marjorie Hughes both of Kansas City, MO.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Daniel Troutz, of Holt, MO; daughter, Karen Davis of Prairie Village, KS; mother, Louise Hughes, of Kearney, MO; brother, David Hughes, of Kearney, MO; sister, Marybeth Robeson of Kansas City, MO; sister, Christine Bossung of Belleville, IL; and grandchildren, Rachel and Shepard of Prairie Village, KS.
A rosary service for Patricia will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 Northeast Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119. A visitation will occur Friday, February 24, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, 3325 Northeast Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119.
A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel Parish, 4737 N. Cleveland Rd, Kansas City, MO 64117.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to KCPT (Kansas City Public Television) or to NPR (National Public Radio), and may be left in the care of the funeral home.
