Nina Joanne Baslee, 86 years old, of Odessa MO, passed away on January 19, 2021 in Independence, MO. Nina was born 9-13-1934 in Hastings Iowa, to William Earl and Naomi (Kincheloe) Waterworth and grew up in Southwest Iowa. She played girls, 6-person, half-court basketball as a standout guard while in school and graduated from Strahan High School in Strahan, Iowa.
She met and later married Thomas Baslee, Jr on May 16, 1952 and worked at Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa. They later moved from southwest Iowa to Independence and Raytown, MO. Two sons, Rodney Kent Baslee and Robert Lee Baslee, were born of their union.
Nina Joanne worked at KMart in retail for many years, until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband prior to his death in 1986 related to Alzheimer's disease. She continued to travel and had visited 32 States over her lifetime. She enjoyed painting still life and landscapes in acrylic and other mediums, and also enjoyed trips to the casino prior to her declining health.
Nina Joanne is survived by one grandson Matthew Baslee of Prairie Village, KS; a great grand daughter, Kaliana Baslee of Raytown, MO; brother James L. Waterworth, Valley Center, CA; numerous nephews and nieces, and a lifetime of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Baslee Jr., sons Robert Lee Baslee and Rodney Kent Baslee, grandson, Brett Baslee, parents William and Naomi (Kincheloe) Waterworth, and 9 of her siblings.
A service and memorial will not be held at this time due to the pandemic, and a private interment will ensure she is in her final resting place at Newcomer's Floral Hills Cemetery.
