Nicholas Bondurant Cox, 32, died January 28, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Prairie Village, Kansas, where he attended Prairie Elementary, Indian Hills Middle School, and was a 2008 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. After his graduation, he attended Johnson County Community College. During his youth, he played soccer and basketball and was a member of Troop 91, where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and enjoyed a trek to Philmont Scout Ranch. He also was a Fire Builder in the Tribe of Mic O Say. He was a member of the Jewel Ball Floor Committee in 2009. Nicholas had several jobs before finding his home at Mission Chateau Senior Living Community, where he was dearly loved by the residents and staff. He loved TikTok videos, anime, cars, playing video games, and bowling. Recently, he and his girlfriend were thrilled to learn that they were going to be parents to a baby girl, due in July. He would have been an amazing father. The world has lost a kind and gentle soul that loved his family, children, animals, who had a quirky, sarcastic, sense of humor, and who was loved by so many.
Nicholas is survived by his parents, Stephen and Linda Cox; one brother, Alexander Cox; his sweet girlfriend, Michalyn K. McKinney; grandfather, Randy Shahan; uncles, Edward M. Cox III (Pam), Daniel Kenney (Andrea), Robert L. Jackson (Sharon), Irvin Kenney; aunts, Cynthia Cox Talley (Jeffrey), Jennifer Meissner (William), Anne Bowe, Karen Kenney, Carol Champlin; “aunts/uncles” Joe and Marian Tutera, Morgan and Pam Olander, Susan Olander and many dear cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Cox, Jr., Kansas City; Mary Kenney Shahan, Roeland Park, KS; John A. Kenney, Kirksville, MO; an uncle, John David Kenney, Roeland Park, KS, and cousins Erin Kenney and Nathaniel Bowe.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Baby Cox Scholarship Fund at the Bank of Prairie Village, 3515 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
