Neva Clair Norman, 91, passed away May 30th, 2013. She was born on December 18th, 1921 in Shelbyville, Missouri, to Thomas C. Parker and Willie J. Baker Parker. She graduated from Macon, Missouri High School in1939 where she was Homecoming Queen and Captain of the basketball team her senior year. She moved to Kansas City in 1942 and went to work for T.W.A. as a secretary. She married Johnny Norman in 1946 and they had three children, Bobby, Leanne and Jackie. When her kids got older Neva Clair went to work for Shaffer Enterprises where she formed a friendship with the “Shaffer Group” that remained until her death. She later worked at Parke Davis until she retired to spend time with her family and help take care of her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Red Bridge Social Club and “Tabitha Circle” at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She joined Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church and served as Secretary of the congregation from 1995 until 2004 when membership moved to Holy Trinity in Grandview, Missouri.
Neva Clair was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who loved her family, writing poetry, knitting, and her beloved KU Jayhawks. Over the years she had numerous animals and participated in animal rescue work and was a “foster parent” to many dogs.
She was preceded in death by her son Bobby, her husband Johnny, and her sisters Elma, Lillian and Edra. She is survived by her daughters Leanne Mayer and Jackie Arnold (Bob), her sister Bobbie Ruth Atwell (Jack), eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Crossroads Hospice.
