April 14, 1932 – February 24, 2023
Nathaniel was born in Newellton, Louisiana to Foster Hayes and Amy Fleming Hayes, and was nine of twelve children. Nathaniel graduated from Thomas Town High School in Tallulah, Louisiana in 1952. He joined the Army and fought in the Korean War from 1952-1954.
He moved to Kansas City Missouri after discharged where he married and worked hard at providing a good life for his wife and children.
Nathaniel had several jobs in his lifetime but the one he enjoyed most was with the United States Postal Service in the Motor Vehicle Department. He served as a union representative, and this allowed him and his family the privilege to travel all over the United States. He really enjoyed representing those in the union and defended everyone with the same vigor whether wrong or right. He would spend long evenings “pecking” with one finger at his typewriter unless someone offered to type for him…. which of course he readily accepted.
Nathaniel loved music and dancing (as he thought he was a great dancer). He would get up on the weekend put on James Brown and “camel walk” as he made breakfast for everyone. He liked to fish, hunt, play cards and spend time with his family and friends.
Nathaniel was member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until he was no longer able to drive.
His parents and 10 of his brothers and sisters precede him in death. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his sister Joan Bertreal Hayes Jasmine (Chicago); Florence Hayes Hartwick (Las Vegas); daughters- Joyce Hayes McRoy (Richard); Sharon Hayes; Cheryl Hayes Carson; son- David Larmar (Christy){Shreveport, LA); grandchildren- Nia Franklin, Brian Carson (Barbara); Taylor Gordon, Adrian Carson, Phillip Thomas, Rheana McRoy; great grandchildren; Aubrianna Carson, Julian Carson, Ariah Carson, Rhagan Jones ; Rhue Simms; David Larmar Jr; Derrick Larmar and a host of many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
