On March 5, 2024, Nabih Ibrahim Abdou, MD/PHD, passed away. He was living in Overland Park, KS at the time and was 89 years old. He was born on October 11th 1934 in Cairo, Egypt and after completing primary, secondary, and medical school there, he obtained a Fullbright scholarship, which allowed him to continue his education and research in allergy and immunology, at the University of Pennsylvania, Mayo clinic. And McGill University in Montreal, Canada eventually obtaining a P.H.D in immunology. He was the author and co-author of many scientific publications, and was a professor of immunology at the University of Kansas medical school. Besides his own scientific pursuits, he trained numerous students, residents, and fellows in the area of allergy and immunology. One of his greatest pleasures was seeing many of them establish their own scientific careers. During his time on the staff of Saint Luke's hospital, he was part of the center for rheumatic diseases where he saw patients with allergy, rheumatic and immunology diseases.
Nabih married Doctor Nancy Layle in 1967.
They adopted 2 beautiful children Mark and Marie. He is survived by his wife, children and 5 grandchildren. The family requests no flowers but donations can be made to a charity of their choice or the center for advanced brain and neurologic care at the university of kansas health system.com.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Saint Mary & Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Kansas City; burial in Moran, KS.
