Myrna was born on November 3, 1941 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Colonel and Mrs. Kenneth Martin. The family eventually returned to live in Kansas City, where she attended Southwest High School and then on to Emporia State University Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. She then taught kindergarten at Flint School in Shawnee, Kansas for three years.
In 1967, while still teaching kindergarten, she married Dio Rockers, thus began a 51 year union that was blessed with two sons, Derek and Bradley. As a family, they enjoyed living and traveling throughout the USA and beyond. Myrna remained the heart and soul of the family.
Myrna had many interests, including antiquing, travel and investing in real estate and the stock market, a skill that she inherited from her father. She was also a finance manager of the business she and Dio founded in Arizona in 1999.
Myrna was involved in garden clubs, meals on wheels, Maggie's Place and Newcomer's, but her real pride was being involved in school activities including PTA, Cub Scouts and fund raising. More recently, she was able to visit her grandchildren in person or face timing, which was one of her greatest pleasures. Myrna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be remembered as being a gentle and soft spoken lady who cared for others and was loyal to her many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Dio, sons, Derek (Jana Bassett) of Los Angeles, California, Brad (Mary Sullivan) of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, four grandchildren, brother, William Martin of Huntsville, Alabama, a niece Linda Lipka (John) of Ferguson, Missouri and nephew, Steve Martin of Overland Park, Kansas and extended family and friends.
