He is survived by his wife, Carla, and their two children, Aubrey and Nick; their spouses, Brian and Amy; and four grandchildren: Cameron, Aiden, Ben and Jack.
All, especially Carla, cared for Mike in his final illness, and loved him deeply.
Mike was born in Kansas City, MO on July 6, 1958. He was the son of Tony and Jean Helling, who are deceased. His brother Dave Helling, and sisters Nancy Crain and Lissa Letts, survive him. Mike’s second brother, Chuck Helling, died in 2017.
Mike grew up in Overland Park, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School, and the University of Kansas. He was a nationally-known, award-winning television sports producer, including producer of St. Louis Cardinals’ broadcasts for 22 years. He also produced broadcasts for the Colorado Rockies, and numerous college football and basketball games.
He loved his family, the Rocky Mountains, playing golf, and BBQ. He loved Bruce Springsteen and dozens of other rock artists. He traveled extensively, and became instant friends with anyone he met.
All who knew him will miss his easy laugh and warm heart.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., with visitation at 9:30 A.M. at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th Street, Leawood, KS. A luncheon will follow Mass. His Committal service will take place at 2:00 P.M. in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS.
