Michael Kent Deardorff, age 73, of Overland Park, KS peacefully passed away with his wife by his side on July 8, 2023. Michael was born August 5, 1949 in Rochester, IN to his mother Patricia Deardorff and father Roger Deardorff. He grew up on the family dairy farm working and playing with his younger brothers Kerry and Kevin Deardorff. Mike met the love of his life Patsy Ann in the eighth grade and they eventually married while Mike was earning his Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Purdue University before going on to law school at Valparaiso University.
They started their life together in Kokomo, IN where they had their two children, Jeff and Becky, and made many close friends that are still dear to them today. After a stint practicing law in Kokomo, he transitioned into the insurance industry where he spent the bulk of his career. Mike moved with his family to Overland Park in 1986 while working for BMA Insurance which eventually became RBC before he retired.
He was a loving husband and family was always first for Mike. He rarely missed any of his six grandchildren’s sporting events, choir concerts, and theatre performances. Mike loved to travel and he and Pat went on many adventures together around the globe. In retirement, he also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and landscaping his yard. Mike was a constant presence in his men’s Bible study group and cherished the friendships he made in that group.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Deardorff. He is survived by his father, Roger Deardorff, his brothers Kerry and Kevin Deardorff, his wife Patsy Deardorff, his two children Jeff Deardorff (Jennifer Deardorff) and Becky Widler (Jason Widler), and his six grandchildren Haley, Jackson, Claire and CJ Deardorff and Kate and Emily Widler.
There will be a visitation from 9:30-11:00am immediately followed by a memorial service on Friday, July 14 at Colonial Presbyterian Church – Overland Park campus.
