But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:1-2 NIV
On December 13, 1964 God gifted Clarence C. Clark Jr. and Shirley A. Curtis-Clark with a son, Michael Shawn Clark.
Michael grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He was baptized at an early age by Rev. John W. Williams at St. Stephen's Missionary Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. His mother had high hopes and knew her son had a special calling when she saw her son frequently go to the altar for prayer only to find out later that he was praying for a bike. As a teenager, Michael attended Barker Temple COGIC and sang in the choir.
As a young man, Michael acquired many of his cooking skills as a cook apprentice at the Alameda Hotel on the Plaza in the Kansas City, MO area. He used his cooking skills in restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes while living in Topeka, KS and Austin, TX. He took pride in serving meals and dishes to many people who enjoyed and looked forward to his cooking. Michael later pursued a career as a handyman, an appliance repairman, and a HVAC technician. Michael started his handyman business in the Austin area with the motto "I'll do it!" until his health started to fail. He later resided in St. Joseph, MO until his passing.
Michael became a die-hard, avid, and enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs fan after attending a Kansas City Chiefs training camp event with Big Brother's as a boy. During football season Michael's enthusiasm could be heard clearly everywhere no matter what type of season the Chiefs had. He would say he was not a fair weather fan. While a young man, Michael dreamed one day of becoming a football player.
Michael was called “Michael Shammy”, “Icy Mike”, and “Big Mike” by family and friends. But his greatest name was Minister Michael Clark. Michael accepted his calling while attending Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, TX. Under the pastorates of Pastor A. W. Anthony Mays of Mt. Sinai MBC, Austin, TX and Pastor Gaylon Clark of Greater Mt. Zion MBC, Austin, TX, Michael studied and spread God's word. He was involved with nursing home and street ministries and evangelism in the Austin and St. Joseph areas. Recently, Michael had started a ministry called "Half Hour of God's Power." He was a mighty prayer warrior and actively joined other ministers and deacons in the Austin area in a weekly morning prayer meeting.
Michael Shawn answered another of God's call on July 17, 2021 and now communes eternally with our Lord and Savior.
