Melvin Ray Harris, 89, of Kansas City, Missouri, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 31, 2015. A Celebration of Melvin's Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the celebration at the chapel.
Melvin was born on April 23, 1925 in Fulton, Missouri to Melvin Harris and Emily Gertrude Vaughn Harris. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Melvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in logistics and supply. After the war, Melvin married Eunice Crowell on September 26, 1946 and to this union three children were born. Melvin went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, working on the ‘Mail Train' for 25 years. Melvin was an avid fisherman, pool player and loved spending time outdoors with his grandkids. He was the coolest and nicest man you ever wanted to meet. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his former wife and friend, Eunice, on August 15, 2011; one brother, Donald Harris; and one sister, Dorothy Harris. Melvin leaves to mourn his passing his three children, Brodus Harris, Sandra McGee (Wilbert) and Donna Williams. Also surviving are one sister, Alice Harris; nephew, Keith Greenfield; son-in-law, Alan Williams; four grandchildren, Latrice Williams, Rachelle Henry, Alan Williams, Jr., Anthony McGee; and 9 great-grandchildren.
