1948 – 2017
Megan Anne Kopp, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on Friday, December 15th, 2017. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 3rd, 1948, Megan attended St. Agnes grade school, Bishop Miege high school and St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KS. A couple years after college Megan met her future best friend, life partner and husband Jim Kopp. They were married in 1971 and settled together in Kansas City. Megan and Jim raised four children: James Jr, Kevin, Angela and Matthew. They called many places home: Kansas City; Bartlesville, OK; Houston, TX and Montreal, Quebec. A devoted and loving Mother, she was an active participant in all her children’s sports and hobbies. Megan could always be spotted cheering her children on whether it be at their swim meets, Boy Scout events, Rockhurst High School, KU football games or at St. Thomas Aquinas. Megan had many interests and accomplishments from volunteering at all her kid’s schools to running her own marketing business. But there was no larger interest for Megan than her 9 beautiful grandchildren: Maddie, Annie, Emmy, Anderson, Ainsley, Jude, Olive, Winnie and Maxine. Never did a room light up for Megan than when any of those grandkids walked in. Megan treasured the annual summer family get together when all her children and grandchildren would “move in” with her at her home for several weeks. Megan was also passionate about the fight against Alzheimer’s, a disease she battled for years. Her passion drove her to participate in endless studies and clinical trials with her trusted team of researchers and doctors at University of Kansas Medical Center Alzheimer’s Disease Center, namely Dr. Russell Swerdlow, MD. Megan was a key contributor, her commitment and participation will no doubt translate into an approach that will help others suffering with Alzheimer’s. Megan has bestowed on all of us a legacy that will live long into the future through her family, a legacy of faith and unconditional love. We will all miss her big smile, can do attitude, bright and sweet spirit and her elegant ways. Your spirit will live on through us Mom, Grandma, Nyanya, beautiful wife. Megan was preceded in death by her parents Anne and Moon Mullin and her brother Tim Mullin. She is survived by her husband Jim Kopp and all her children: James Kopp Jr., Kevin Kopp (Brooke), Angela Kopp and Matthew Kopp (Katie), her 9 grandchildren: Madeline Kopp, Emmy Kopp, Olive Kopp, Annie Kopp, Anderson Kopp, Ainsley Kopp, Jude Kopp, Winter Kopp, Maxine Kopp and a 10th grandchild on the way. Megan is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Jan Mullin, Russell Mullin, Mary Jeanne Mullin and Sue Nuener (Steve) and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
