Maxine Elizabeth Lark McArn, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born to Harry J. Lark, Sr., and Ruby D. Simon Lark of Kansas City, Missouri. Maxine graduated from Lincoln High School, Kansas City, MO in 1942, and University of Missouri, Kansas City where she majored in Nursing, and KU Med for her practical training. She loved working in the children’s ward. During this time her mother fell ill, and Maxine made the critical decision to leave the program and care for her mother. God, true to His promise, blessed her obedience to honor her mother.
She was employed by the United States Treasury, Internal Revenue Service for 31 years.
Following her retirement, she channeled her time, resources, and relentless energy into her Family, Community Service, Stratford Estates Neighborhood, and Paseo Baptist Church family. Maxine was a member of Paseo Baptist Church for 66 years, Sunday School Teacher 66 years, Cathedral Choir 66 years, Hannah Circle, Loving, Caring and Sharing Mission, Vacation Bible School, Kitchen Committee, Women’s Retreat, and Children’s Church.
She served on the board of the Stratford Homeowner’s Association. Maxine gave a lifetime of service to her community including AARP Counselor, AARP Chapter 2024, Breast and Cervical Cancer Advisory Committee, Coordinator of Samuel L. Rodger Health Fair, C.L.A.I.M.S. Advisory Board and Westport Co-op Services.
Always in the pursuit of new life experiences, she decided to take organ lessons with her good friend, Hazel Borders. Much to her delight, she became quite proficient. Maxine and Luther were the official “Mom and Dad” of Southeast High School, Class of 1972. They continued to participate in activities at Southeast High School even after their children had graduated.
Maxine was a loving and devoted wife to Luther McArn, Sr. Their union was blessed with one son, Luther McArn, Jr and two daughters, Nina Marcia E. Robinson and Melanie E. McArn. Nana, as known by her grandchildren, was ever ready and willing to give of herself. She had a gentle spirit and relentless drive. She led, loved, and dedicated her life to her family. She loved to spend time with them, pour into their lives, and could wear them out with her high energy. She loved having fun.
