Maurice began his earthly journey on January 1,1928 as the only son of Lee Weaver and Heloise Richardson. His Elementary School years were spent in Leavenworth, Kansas. He returned to Kansas City, Kansas and attended Sumner High School, graduating in 1946. Upon graduation from Sumner, he attended Pittsburg State University where he earned both BS and MS degrees. While at Pittsburg, he became a proud and loyal member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
In 1950 he married Marvelyn Swann, and this union produced two beautiful and talented children, Michael and Moné. In that same year, he was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict, until he was honorably discharged in 1952. After being discharged from the Armed Services, he worked briefly for the US Postal Service in Kansas City Missouri, leaving that place of employment to begin an illustrious career with the Kansas City, Missouri School District. His first appointment was at West High School as an instructor of Biology. Other district appointments included Administrator at M.L. King Middle School, Paseo High School, and Director of the evening high school at both M.L. King and Paseo.
In 1964, a lifelong dream of his to become a pilot was fulfilled, when he received his pilot license.
In April of 1969, Maurice was introduced to Marion Moore Evans, by a mutual friend. Their friendship blossomed into marriage in December of the same year. Together their home has consistently provided a foundation of faith and love for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Maurice was also in the first class of Octogenarians being recognized by the TJB Foundation, and he was one of the oldest members of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Kansas City Alumni Chapter.
Maurice leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife of 52 years Marion; son, Michael L. Weaver, MD (Jamila); daughters Moné Weaver Swann, Pamela Evans Rowles, Robin Smiley (Arnold); grandchildren Austin Blockson, Christina, Jasmine and Brionna Rowles, great-granddaughter Makena Bennett; brother Roger Weaver; nephew Roger Weaver II & Family; nieces Diane Page, Avia Mundle (Tony), Debbie Ivory (Frank), Cheryl Dangerfield (Donald); beloved cousins Dr. Marilyn Richardson & Family, Bea Langham & Family, Danielle McDaniel (Dale), Phyliss Weaver & Family; devoted family friends Lucille Lowe, Rev. and Mrs. Arthur Mackey; a host of relatives, dear friends, and former students, and the brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Kansas City Alumni Chapter.
A visitation for Maurice will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. A committal service will follow at 12:00 PM in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Masks and social distancing required.
